This adapter gives Motorola and other radios with the M4 connector the ability to use a much more convenient and simple solution, the M1 2-pin connector. Once attached to the radio there is very little reason to remove the adapter, simply unplug the M1 connector of your earpiece from the adapter to detach and screw it back in when it's time to use the radio. Some users find this solution more elegant than using a standard M4 earpiece.
